Upcoming Quality and environmental management system (ISO 9001:2025 & ISO 14001:2025) The major ISO management system standards, ISO 9001 for Quality Management Systems and ISO 14001 for Environmental Management Systems, are both undergoing revisions. Drafting of the revisions for both standards began in the fall of 2023, and the revision process is expected to be completed by 2026. Note: The Revision of ISO 9001 Has Been Delayed to 2026 The long-anticipated revision of ISO 9001—the globally recognized benchmark for quality management systems—has been officially delayed, with final publication now expected in 2026. The updated version was initially scheduled for release by the end of 2025. Overview of the ISO 9001 Revision ISO 9001 is undergoing a significant update to reflect evolving industry needs and remain effective in today’s fast-changing environment. This revision seeks to ensure the standard remains relevant, user-friendly, and audit-ready, while aligning with modern practices and stakeholder expectations. Key Areas of Change The revised standard is expected to address emerging trends such as digital transformation, hybrid and remote work environments, environmental sustainability, and the growing demand for global consistency. Anticipated updates include improved guidance on risk-based thinking, broader stakeholder involvement, and greater integration of digital and sustainability considerations. How to Prepare for the New Version To stay ahead, organizations are encouraged to begin early preparations. This includes performing a gap analysis, revising quality management documentation, providing staff training, and exploring technological upgrades. Proactive planning will help ensure ongoing compliance, strengthen quality processes, and provide a competitive edge as global expectations evolve. Second Committee Draft (CD) issued for comments to SC 2 members - New Convenor of Working Group (WG) 29 A new Convenor was appointed to the WG 29 in December 2024. The next step will be a meeting of WG 29 between 31st March and 4th April 2025 in Paris to disposition the comments received and begin preparation for the Draft International Standard. |
